Last weekend we began weaning all the lambs. So the wailing and gnashing of teeth began. The moms seem to be a little relieved. The ewes and lambs are right across the fence from one another so they can still see and talk to one another. After the first two days everyone has settled down. The lambs are now getting additional alfalfa and this seems to be the most upsetting to the ewes. We are providing a grass hay to the ewes in addition to the waning pastures, the reduction in high quality feed will help them dry up a bit faster and reduce the chances of mastitis. Hoping to reunite the flock in another 2 weeks. We shall see how quickly the ewes dry up. Lambs are ready for their new homes now anytime. We have been blessed with such a wonderful crop of lambs this season.
